The Modena Unit nominates a new ELLIS PhD Student

The Director of the Modena ELLIS Unit, Prof. Rita Cucchiara, has nominated a new ELLIS PhD Student: Davide Bucciarelli.
Davide is a first-year PhD student at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he works under the supervision of Prof. Rita Cucchiara and is co-supervised by Prof. Marcella Cornia. His co-supervisor within the ELLIS network will be Prof. Cees Snoek (Amsterdam Unit), with whom he will spend a 6-month internship.
Davide already has a strong research track record, including a paper accepted at ICCV 2025: “What Changed? Detecting and Evaluating Instruction-Guided Image Edits with Multimodal Large Language Models”, co-authored with Lorenzo Baraldi (PhD Student), Federico Betti, Marcella Cornia, Nicu Sebe (ELLIS Unit Trento), Lorenzo Baraldi (Modena ELLIS Unit Coordinator) and Rita Cucchiara. The paper introduces DICE (DIfference Coherence Estimator), a novel model to assess the quality and relevance of image edits guided by textual instructions, with results that closely align with human judgment.
We are glad to welcome Davide into the ELLIS PhD Program and look forward to his contributions at the intersection of multimodal large language models and generative AI.
